2504 Vistaview Terrace is a sleek, contemporary architectural statement piece. The white stucco and glass facade suggests a clean, modern interpretation of art deco inspirations. The house is pleasingly juxtaposed against its natural surroundings. It sits at a discreet distance from the street, giving it a certain privacy and exclusivity. There's a playfulness to the front balcony above the door--a slightly whimsical touch, reminiscent of Gaudi's Barcelona. By foot, you approach the house via a short gangway over the lawn. A driveway wraps gently around the side of the house, leading to a secluded garage tucked away alongside the building.
You enter the grand foyer via impressively carved doors, framed by long, elegant side panels. The ceiling comes up in a soaring, sky-lit vault, but despite this grand sense of scale, the house is impressively crafted down to its small details--note the trim and the tray ceiling effect. The grand foyer opens up the house, and several rooms spread before you.
Crossing the impressive slate floor, you enter the kitchen. The kitchen, like most of the main level, features wide-plank walnut hardwood from Carlisle of Maine's prestige collection. The house has both primary and secondary service kitchens. The primary kitchen features a host of impressive amenities, worthy of the most serious chef and convenient and accessible for any home cook. The Wolfe gas range, with commercial grade exhaust, the sub-zero fridge with a glass door, and the fact that the standard oven under the range is supplemented by a second wall convection oven are all enormously handy. There's plenty of pantry space, and the appliance garage storage neatly conceals kitchen hardware.
The service kitchen features full suite of stainless steel appliances, quartz counters, and a stainless steel back splash. The kitchen contains a wet bar with high-gloss acrylic pantry cabinetry and Subzero wine refrigerator with a 96 bottle capacity. Off the primary kitchen, you'll find a screened-in porch with a grilling patio, which also offers access to the English garden. The setup is ideal for entertaining on a large scale, preparing family meals, or taking advantage of Columbia's often clement weather and the house's lush forested setting.
Via sliding glass double-doors, from here you can enter the formal dining room. Here you'll find porcelain tile floors and a second wet bar. The room comfortably seats fourteen people. It's spectacular--all glass and light, with skylights and a wall of picture windows looking out on the forest. The long glass doors offer a simultaneous sense of easy connection to the body of the house and encapsulated privacy. The room almost seems to float, suspended in the trees.
From the kitchen, we can reach the large two car garage, complete with a convenient garage storage closet.
Returning to the kitchen, we can take a left into the living room. The living room features large porcelain tile flooring and is illuminated by a chandelier and recessed lighting. The gas fireplace is surrounded by a stone frame. The living room is slightly recessed, and the difference between its floor-height and that of the kitchen give the house a pleasing flow of space and textures. The living room also offers prime views of the woods via its large windows. It benefits from a whole-home commercial-grade entertainment solution, with six-speaker surround sound here and in the lower family room.
Near the kitchen and living room, we find an elegant half-bath, with quartz countertops, large-tile flooring, recessed lighting and a wooden backsplash.
From the living room, we progress to the stone-floored solarium. Here we find a custom-built entertainment center. Like the living room, it has a commercial-quality sound system. We can also see the built-in bookshelves and display nooks, and the custom cabinetry by Andy Werth, with floating walnut bases, high-gloss acrylic cabinet doors and quartz tops, which persist throughout the home.
The whole house also features fully-programmable lighting controls, a security system with cameras viewable from the television that can be controlled with the mobile device of your choice, and a smart thermostat. There are custom light fixtures and accent lighting (all LED, for energy efficiency) throughout the house, and touch activated, fully programmable Grafik-T light switches. There's also a brand new high efficiency HVAC system. A total of sixteen skylights throughout every corner of the home provide natural light, and every chandelier is a custom-made work of art.
We find such a chandelier in the master suite, which we enter through a pleasingly substantial set of double wooden doors. The bedroom offers a built-in walnut entertainment center, and there's a cozy, private sitting room off of the main bedroom area, complete with a gas fireplace. This room overlooks the pool.
The master bathroom features a smooth white jetted tub and huge walk-in tile shower with multiple jets and custom tile-work. Here you'll find a double vanity with a beautiful custom back splash and recessed storage. Some of the walls in this room curve softly, giving the space character, a kind of warmth and intimacy. This bathroom gives access to a private deck. The master suite has two separate water closets. One of these has a private single vanity, as well as additional closet space.
The substantial walk in closet is illuminated by skylights and has built-in shelving along three walls--the display and storage options make it look like you've walked into a shop on Savile Row. The room also contains washer and dryer hook-ups that allow you to neatly stack this equipment and enjoy the ease and comfort of in-suite laundry.
Leaving the master suite and heading back towards the grand foyer, we find the library. This pleasant room, with its built-in shelves, hardwood floors, and a custom-made chandelier that resembles an astrolabe, would make a convenient and well-fitted study or office.
Passing through the grand foyer, we descend to the house's second level via a stair with a wrought-iron rail. The rail's design marries the vertical leitmotif that unites many of the house's design motifs with an inviting, swirling curve. The stair opens out, grand and broad, onto a broad tiled rec room, with a view of the backyard. The rec room flows onto a bar. Newly remodeled, the bar features a high-capacity wine closet, housed behind glass doors with accent lighting.
Walking on, we find a guest suite off the pool, with a walk-in closet and access to a Jack-and-Jill bath that is shared with another of the home’s bedrooms. This gives you and your guests a bit of privacy, and enhances your ability to entertain. We also find two additional bedrooms, each with a large closet and private vanity. One features a true walk-in closet with barn door hardware. This is the perfect house for a family, or people who want to be able to take on a variety of guests.
We also find a third full bathroom, with a closet housing a second set of washer and dryer hook-ups.
The gym includes rubber floors, a TV mount and surround sound--everything you need to have a professional gym experience in the home. It also overlooks the English garden.
This lower level also includes a suspended ceiling garage and a wealth of un-finished and semi-finished storage space, which houses the aforementioned home security and entertainment equipment.
Walking outside, we find a gorgeous pool with a shape that mirrors that of the house. It comes with all-new equipment, including a new pump, heater, and fountain. There's also a hot tub, easily covered when not in use, and a stone-ringed gas fire pit, with an appealing seating ledge. You could see yourself using this in an autumnal or even winter setting, extending the life of the outdoor component of the house and really making it a year-round amenity, integrating this outdoor portion fully into the home and its attendant lifestyle.
Two cabana areas, an upper deck and a lower deck will ensure you get the most out of the home's natural setting, whether you're throwing parties or quietly enjoying the environment. There's also space for a bar. Impressive outdoor lighting illuminates the wooded backyard and the exterior of the home. Electric fencing keeps out nuisance animals. There's also a meticulously landscaped English garden, with a programmable water feature.
Columbia sits in a temperate rainforest. Its unique geographic position, just above the foothills of the worn, ancient Ozark Mountains means that you get a real sense of seasonality, yet it's often warm. The rich, lush greenery of the place might surprise you. This home, with its extensive access to and views on the outdoors, is poised to offer you the best of this unique, lovely climate. It sits at the junction of Hinkson and Flatbranch creeks. It also backs up to a wildlife reserve, giving the impression of seclusion without sacrificing a centralized location.
